I have practiced light packing for years and am a devotee. This essay fits my outlook and I am happy you are promoting it. If you are traveling to a civilized area they have stores that sell things Be sure you have a little cash, ID, and a couple of credit/debit cards. Meds if you need them. Clean underwear for every day of your stay is nice, but honestly it's widely sold too.

Exactly! If anything I held my tongue on this one somewhat. Just buy what you need while you’re there. When in Rome and all of that.

I open your essays even when crunched for time cuz i know time sorta slows while reading you and gives me even more of break than i knew i needed. I both loved and hated that scene from Darjeeling Limited, but I am also NOT a Wes fan beyond his very first Bottle Rockets - his reality-adjacent fantasy dioramas are interesting, but beyond that I have just never "understood" Anderson (hard for my Wes-loving bestie to understand). Also, I still have a tapestry upholstered suitcase from 30 years ago that has no wheels, and it DOES make traveling feel like the days of "when you had to dress up." Something my mom laments often, and something I'm actually old enough to remember. And, your comment on decision-making is IT! We are cognitively sapped, unable to make decisions cuz of our burden of stuff, so instead of using our cognitive abilities to pare down, we just turtle it around with us wherever we go. Absolutely great work, as always!

It’s funny how I can tackle all of these seemingly disparate topics and it always seems to circle back to the fact that people’s attention spans and ability to think is fried and that all sorts of strange occurrences irl are downstream of that. And yet- for what ever reason- part of this means that people are either unaware of this or for whatever reason can’t let go and just slow down until they can recoup and regain equilibrium.

I think my ‘message’ in a sentence is JUST STOP.

Which, to bring it around to Wes Anderson, is what his films do for me. I just stop and sink intp his aesthetic world like you would sink into a bath. But similarly, I understand why people wouldn’t be into that. I respect when someone’s art is emphatically itself and not for everyone.

Great to hear from you Trilety and thanks for reading.

Well maybe I need to watch Anderson's films with the thought of sinking into a tub instead. . . .

Thanks Adam. Sometimes you have to wait a while to see the right thing but when you do you wonder why you didn’t see it sooner. But such is the nature of perception and energy I suppose.
